Wicked Hands 04:36
Was it worth the pain above your back To Pull at every chord? Sitting in the middle of the track Heading for the ward No one gave you a cause No vindicated flaws I can’t see you anymore Who’re you trying to please? Gunning for a sweet release What’re you trying to prove? Wicked hands will come for you Was it worth the fog behind your eyes To care enough at all? No one asked for you to paint the skies Still you gave them more No one made you the boss No imaginary flaws Do you feel it anymore? Who’re you trying to please? Gunning for a sweet release What’re you trying to prove? Wicked hands will come for you ————— Some of us just need a hand to hold To carry us along Pressing our desires into the folds Dreaming we belong No one saved you a spot No original thought Like a baby in the cot Who’re you trying to please? Gunning for a sweet release? What’re you trying to prove? Wicked hands will come for you

about

Alt-rocker Last Living Cannibal continues to expand his sonic palette, bringing in nylon string guitars and sparkly synthesisers on his expansive and beguiling new single 'Wicked Hands'. His first to be released on Nothing Fancy, the single follows on from 2021’s self-released debut album '7 Years', a whirlwind of live shows that included a support tour with Penelope Isles and journeying back and forth between Berlin to produce EERA’s acclaimed album Speak.

“Wicked Hands is about asking yourself whether anything is worth working towards when it’s probably hurting you.” explains Allister Kellaway AKA Last Living Cannibal, “I wrote the lyrics while I was lugging my gear across London after a gig and having one of those “what am I doing  with my life?” moments. I guess I treat this song like a cathartic release, it’s strangely comforting to me somehow, just by highlighting how ridiculous this all is I can put less pressure on myself.”

Frontman and leader of The Mantis Opera, experimental, avant garde rockers who have something of a cult live following in London, Last Living Cannibal has come as an exciting diversion for him. Initially drawing on the “wall of sound, blown out thing” of the likes of Low and My Bloody Valentine, for this latest set of recordings he wanted to try out something more subtle, where small changes have a greater impact.

With an EP to follow in the autumn, 'Wicked Hands' will also be released on cassette next month as part of Nothing Fancy’s ongoing cassette series that has also featured releases from Mumble Tide, Scott Lavene and Vogues.
